Re: [BellevilleRunningClub] 2010 Beginner's Training

I just wanted to give everyone an update on the status of the Beginner's Training.  A bunch of us got together last week to discuss what we wanted to do with the program and we got off to a good start.

The flyer for the program and the training schedule are attached to this e-mail.  You can also find these documents on the website and under the files section of the Yahoo Group.

The first beginner's run will be on Tuesday, March 2nd at the Belleville East Track (assemble at 5:50pm, start running at 6:00pm).  We will be holding a Meet n Greet at the Belleville Parks and Recreation office next Wednesday (2/24/10) at 6pm to allow any interested new runners the opportunity to meet us before they show up at the track.  If you know of anyone that has been talking about taking up running, encourage them to attend next Wednesday's meeting or show up on March 2nd.

Thanks,
Dan

Subject: [BellevilleRunningClub] 2010 Beginner's Training

In each of the last two years, the BRC has sponsored a beginner's training program in the spring.  This beginner's training was created with the goal of encouraging new runners to run their first 5K at the Law Day Run and was done in conjunction with the Get Up and Go program.

Since January is now upon us, it is time to start thinking about the 2010 program.  This year's program will be even bigger since it will include City of Belleville employees participating in a wellness program.

During the last two years, we had a training program based on the Runner's World's Beginner's 5K Program.  However, this year we are going to go with something similar to Cool Running's Couch to 5K Plan (http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/23/181.shtml).

The plan is that the Beginner's Group would meet on Tuesday night's at 6pm at Belleville East (in conjunction with speedwork).  We would also encourage them to join us during the Thursday night runs, although I think we would wait until the third week of their program (when daylight savings time begins).  Additionally, depending on interest, we could also meet with the Beginner's Group on Saturdays after our group run.

So we have three tasks for everyone:

1. If you know of anyone that has been talking about taking up running, encourage them to think about participating in the 2010 BRC Beginner's Training Program.
2. If you have any interest in helping out, please e-mail me directly at danieltrapp@yahoo.com.  We will need at least need a few people to run with and encourage the new runners.
3. We would like to put together a Frequently Asked Questions for Beginning Runners document to share with the Beginner's Group.  This document would include all of the questions that you were afraid to ask or just didn't know to ask when you first started running and might include such topics as the proper use of body glide, how to breathe when running, how to stretch, where to go to the bathroom, where you put your keys, etc.

Thanks,
Dan
