BELLEVILLE --
The city and Belleville Township are hosting a city-wide litter pick-up on Saturday.

The volunteer event, which was postponed April 12 because of rainy weather, will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Those interested in volunteering can sign up at the Belleville Township Office, 111 W. A St., or call the township office at 233-0206.

Volunteers also are welcome to just show up on Saturday, by 8:45 a.m., at the various starting places:

Union Elementary School, 20 S. 27th St.; Cathedral Grade School, 200 S. Second St.; Douglas Elementary School, 125 Carlyle Ave.; Franklin Elementary School, 301 N. Second St.; and Jefferson Elementary School, 1400 N. Charles St.; Belleville East High School, 2555 West Blvd.; Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, 820 Royal Heights Road; Henry Raab Elementary School, 1120 Union Ave.; Roosevelt Elementary School, 700 W. Cleveland Ave.; Westhaven Elementary School, 118 Westhaven School Road; and West Junior High School, 840 Royal Heights Road.

Organizers ask that children in grade levels below third grade be accompanied by a parent. Volunteers will receive pick-up materials, including gloves, at these starting places, and will receive free dark-orange T-shirts.

Mayor Mark Eckert asks motorists on the road Saturday to watch out for the volunteers.
