Half Marathon Runners

Reason 1 - For those participants who want to secure a spot in the 2011 GO! St. Louis Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend, we encourage you to register on September 1, when registration officially opens. Last year, thousands of would-be participants were shut out of the popular Half Marathon when the event sold out in record-breaking time. Don't miss out. Register Early! View 2010 Video.

Reason 2 - September 1 is the date that entry fees increase for the 2nd Annual Halloween 10K & Fun Run. The race has quickly established itself as the premier 10K race in St. Louis and a must-do run for the fall season. If you haven't registered, make a commitment and do it today!

Join the Fight Against Cancer and Pedal the Cause!

Pedal the Cause

People are coming together for this first-year bike challenge for cancer fundraising. Sign up to ride the 25 or 60 mile course, both of which include an urban downtown and a scenic suburbia riding experience. Volunteering is another way to get involved and Pedal the Cause is always looking for dedicated volunteers to help out with all aspects of the event. 100% of the proceeds stay in St. Louis to fund cancer research through the Cancer Frontier Fund, an initiative of Barnes-Jewish Hospital that benefits the Siteman Cancer Center, and the Children's Discovery Institute at St. Louis Children's Hospital. What's New in 2011

Starting Line at 2009 Marathon

After the 2010 Marathon & Family Fitness Weekend we conducted an online participant survey to evaluate how to improve the event for 2011. We received thousands of great suggestions and positive comments. Here's what we found out – More than 95% of participants would recommend the event and 86% rated it excellent or above average, which is great news. In addition, comments suggested that we needed to change the start line and add more volunteers for the early water stations. So in 2011 we will have a corral start with color coded bibs, based on your self reported projected finish time, which should help provide for a more efficient start. Other improvements include adding more volunteers and entertainers along the course, creating a post-race celebration area, virtual runner packets, runner tracking and text alerts. For more updates, including race caps, course time limits and a new apparel/shoe sponsor visit www.gostlouis.org.

Re: [BellevilleRunningClub] 2010 Beginner's Training

I just wanted to give everyone an update on the status of the Beginner's Training.  A bunch of us got together last week to discuss what we wanted to do with the program and we got off to a good start.

The flyer for the program and the training schedule are attached to this e-mail.  You can also find these documents on the website and under the files section of the Yahoo Group.

The first beginner's run will be on Tuesday, March 2nd at the Belleville East Track (assemble at 5:50pm, start running at 6:00pm).  We will be holding a Meet n Greet at the Belleville Parks and Recreation office next Wednesday (2/24/10) at 6pm to allow any interested new runners the opportunity to meet us before they show up at the track.  If you know of anyone that has been talking about taking up running, encourage them to attend next Wednesday's meeting or show up on March 2nd.

Thanks,
Dan

Subject: [BellevilleRunningClub] 2010 Beginner's Training

In each of the last two years, the BRC has sponsored a beginner's training program in the spring.  This beginner's training was created with the goal of encouraging new runners to run their first 5K at the Law Day Run and was done in conjunction with the Get Up and Go program.

Since January is now upon us, it is time to start thinking about the 2010 program.  This year's program will be even bigger since it will include City of Belleville employees participating in a wellness program.

During the last two years, we had a training program based on the Runner's World's Beginner's 5K Program.  However, this year we are going to go with something similar to Cool Running's Couch to 5K Plan (http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/23/181.shtml).

The plan is that the Beginner's Group would meet on Tuesday night's at 6pm at Belleville East (in conjunction with speedwork).  We would also encourage them to join us during the Thursday night runs, although I think we would wait until the third week of their program (when daylight savings time begins).  Additionally, depending on interest, we could also meet with the Beginner's Group on Saturdays after our group run.

So we have three tasks for everyone:

1. If you know of anyone that has been talking about taking up running, encourage them to think about participating in the 2010 BRC Beginner's Training Program.
2. If you have any interest in helping out, please e-mail me directly at danieltrapp@yahoo.com.  We will need at least need a few people to run with and encourage the new runners.
3. We would like to put together a Frequently Asked Questions for Beginning Runners document to share with the Beginner's Group.  This document would include all of the questions that you were afraid to ask or just didn't know to ask when you first started running and might include such topics as the proper use of body glide, how to breathe when running, how to stretch, where to go to the bathroom, where you put your keys, etc.

Thanks,
Dan

BRC Chili Cookoff - General Info

Just one last general e-mail on the chili cookoff this weekend.  The chili cookoff runs from 11am-10pm Friday and Saturday in downtown Belleville.  Our booth is in the first block of South Illinois Street south of the fountain.  We will be across the street from the Courthouse (this is assuming we don't get moved).

If you signed up to help, hopefully we've contacted you and you know what you're doing.  Please remember to wear a hat and any BRC gear that you might have (or the BRC shirt you ordered).  If not, just wear a running shirt of some type.  If you signed up to help and you didn't get the schedule, please e-mail me at danieltrapp@yahoo.com.

If you aren't signed up to help, please come on down, check out the booth, buy some chili, and talk some running with us.  I'm sure some of you have been on this list for a while, but have never made it out for a run.  Please stop by the booth and say hi.

Hello Everyone,

It's that time of year again for the Chili Cook-Off in downtown Belleville. This event is a very good time and a great opportunity to meet your fellow BRC runners, raise some money for the group, and recruit some more runners. The event takes place on October 2nd and 3rd. As in the previous years we'll need all the help your willing to give.

We have a separate Yahoo Group set up for Chili Cookoff chatter so that this group is not overwhelmed with it. Please join http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/BRC_chili_cookoff/ if you're interested in hearing all of the up to date details. If you joined it last year, you're probably still on it.

The following 5 dates are the key times that we will need help. Once we have everyone's availability, we will put out a requested volunteer schedule.

Sunday, 9/27 (12:00pm) - Assemble Booth

Thursday, 10/1 (6:00pm) - Make Chili / Booth Setup

Friday, 10/2 (all day) - Chili Cookoff (including setup and tear down)

Saturday, 10/3 (all day) - Chili Cookoff (including setup and tear down)

Sunday, 10/4 (12:00pm) - Disassemble Booth & Cleanup

As we did last year, we are ordering some BRC shirts again this year. It will be a regular cotton t-shirt with the BRC logo on the front (Not sure what color yet). We will order extra, but we need a rough estimate to order. The cost is $6 (we'll collect when you get the shirt).

Please e-mail the following information to toby_trapp@yahoo. com as soon as possible:

Name:
Phone Number:
E-mail Address:
Availability on the days listed above (include when you are able to work and how long you would want to work):
Shirt Size (if you want one):

Thanks for everything,
Toby
