This is our longest run of the training schedule and is a good time for a dry run of race day. If you haven't already, try out your planned pre-race meals on Friday night and Saturday morning. You may also want to try using some energy gels during the run if you haven't already.

Half Marathoners – We will start at 8:00am and will be running 10 miles (see schedule). We will run 2 loops on our 5 mile route.

Marathoners – We will start at 7:10am and will be running 20 miles (see schedule). We will run 4 loops on our 5 mile route.

Thanks,
Toby and Dan

P.S. We'd like to schedule a pasta dinner for the night before the race if there is sufficient interest. We held the dinner at Papa Vito's the night before the Rock n Roll Marathon and it seemed to go over pretty well. So, is anyone interested?

Subject: BRC -- Race Day at McKendree

Hi, Dan.

McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois is hosting a summertime cycling event on Saturday, July 23rd and we are hoping you can pass the information on to Bellville Running Club members and perhaps post it on your BRC web site Events Calendar.  We know you are all primarily runners, but there might be some cyclists in the group or you may know cyclists who are looking for a biking event this side of the river.

We've designed our 18-mile "The Great McKendree Bike Chase" to be a fun event (a combination ride and race) and welcome riders of ALL levels of cycling expertise.  You can lead the group and hammer the Chase in under an hour or take your time and count how many riders you pass (or who pass you) in the two hours that we'll have the course open.  Your bicycle is your choice:  cruiser, hybrid, road bike, mountain bike, or the Huffy from your basement, but riders must wear a serviceable helmet to participate.

Our Bike Chase is not a U.S. Cycling Federation event and cyclists will NOT be riding on a closed course.  While traffic early on a Saturday morning is very light in Lebanon, we'll ask everyone to be careful of vehicles, especially when making turns.  We'll have volunteers all over the course to keep things safe, but cyclists still need to exercise caution and be aware of other riders who may be participating with different cycling skill levels.

The Chase starts at the McKendree Fountain in the center of campus and finishes on our track inside the Leemon Field stadium.  Each of the six, 3-mile laps follows a route through Lebanon business and residential areas, into and out of our stadium, and then back to the campus fountain and features the challenge of high-speed straight-aways, tight turns, a segment of brick road, a single-file sidewalk, and the track surface itself.

The Bike Chase starts at 8:00am with a safety briefing set for 7:40am.    Registration fee is $15.00 for each participant with $5.00 added if you wait until Chase Day to sign up.  You may register in person on campus at the Intramural Gym located in the Melvin Price Convocation Center, download the registration form at mckendree.edu/raceday, or register online (for a small fee) at "active.com."  Mailed entries must be postmarked by July 19th.  The Chase Day staff will provide both T-shirts and post-race refreshments while they last.  For your convenience, I've attached the registration form; the course map; and an information sheet which includes (1) a description of the Chase course, (2) driving directions to McKendree, and (3) instructions for registering online through active.com.

So, enjoy your summer, have a safe Independence Day weekend, and we hope to see some BRC members bright and early on Chase Day, July 23rd, to ride the streets of McKendree and Lebanon

Law Day Run

The Law Day Run is tomorrow morning. Since the course is on our home turf, it is usually well attended by BRC members and we usually kick a lot of butt.

- Beginners. Good luck to all of you who have been training with the Beginner's 5K Training Program. I'm sure you'll all do great out there!

- Tent. The Belleville Running Club will have our tent and a table out there. If you've been watching the e-mails on this list, but haven't made your way out yet, please stop by the tent and meet us.

- BRC Shirts. If you've got one, don't forget to wear it.

- Kids Run. The 5K is at 9:00am and it is followed by a diaper dash and a youth 1K race at approximately 9:45am. The BRC will be running with the kids to encourage them. The kids races start at the same location as the 5K.  I currently have Shelly Adams, Christy Belsom, Shannon Blaes, Dan Ernst, Jason McCoskey, Ken McKinley, Kristen Preston, Brendan Preston, Patty Shaw, Debbie Townsend, and Sarah West committed to running with the kids. We can use as many people as possible, so please help out regardless of whether or not you've already committed to doing so.

- Picture. As in past years, we will take a group picture after the race. Please assemble at the finish line right after the kids 1K run is complete.

Thanks!
